A Response to the Resignation of ASWU President Shamir Cervantes
The AAUP supports complete transparency in governance and the full participation of all faculty and students in shared governance. Such transparency and participation are crucial to high-quality education and academic freedom, and to distinguishing a non-profit university from a for-profit business. The membership of the Willamette University Advocacy Chapter of the American Association of University Professors shares concerns expressed by former ASWU President Shamir Cervantes and our colleague William E. Duvall of the History Department about transparency and governance of the University. The undersigned executive officers speak with the support of our chapter members, who include tenured, tenure-track, and contingent faculty.
