 WU-AAUP Participation in Negotiations on Governance
Willamette Advocacy Chapter representatives were at the table, alongside other CLA faculty leaders, when  CLA faculty, the students of the CLA,  the Board of Trustees, and the President negotiated the "Joint Agreement on Shared Governance, Consultative Decision-Making, and Communication."  Approved by the CLA faculty in June 2016, the Agreement comprises three shared principles--of transparency, accountability, and equity--and eleven actions regarding matters including the future of the Willamette Academy, student and faculty involvement in Title IX implementation, performance reviews of administrators, and more.

WU-AAUP Evaluation of Shared Governance
The Advocacy Chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) at Willamette University conducted a faculty survey in December 2015 in order to identify major concerns regarding shared governance. With a response rate of 32%, faculty concerns included open, effective communication, shared governance, and the interests of contingent faculty. Survey responses also indicated that there was a general lack of awareness about the role of the board.

The survey, a slightly modified version of AAUP's “Evaluation of Shared Governance,” assessed views of the following:
  1. governance climate;
  2. institutional communication;
  3. the Board’s role;
  4. the President’s role;
  5. the Dean's role;
  6. the faculty’s role;
  7. joint decision-making;
  8. and structural arrangements for governance.

AAUP Review of Faculty Handbooks
"For the most part, I find that the regulations outlined in the WU handbooks comport with Association-supported standards, and am pleased to see AAUP policy documents cited at key points. However, I have noted a few important departures from our recommendations to which I want to draw your attention and that of your colleagues."
